Application
Peptone from meat is designed as a microbial media ingredient which provides nitrogen, vitamins, amino acids required for the growth of microbes.
General description
Peptone from meat obtained through pancreatic digest is used as a media ingredient for the cultivation of enterobacteria, yeast and molds and staphylococci spp.Meat peptone provides nitrogen, vitamins, amino acids and serves as a carbon source in microbial culture media. As a media ingredient pancreatic digest meat peptone is used in the range of 0.3-1.0% in the formulation. The high sulfur content of the pancreatic meat peptone makes it best suited for detection of bacteria producing hydrogen sulfide.Additionally, meat peptone included in blood agar formulations favors the growth of streptococci spp. with a characteristic hemolytic reaction.
